Project 03 – Small & Large Laser Cut

Vinyl Records


Continuing with thinking about older forms of entertainment, I remembered CDs and vinyl records. I wanted mine to be more creative than just a plastic disk with circle etchings, so I decided to incorporate design elements from either the lyrics of songs within the album or the cover design itself. For The Marias album, tcover is a red photo with a swan and Maria. In the Big Thief album: one of my favorite songs is called Great White Shark, hence the shark teeth on the small record. 

Process: 

1. Sketching out the records in Procreate
2. Converting sketches into objects in Adobe Illustrator
3. Test on cardboard (which showed me problems with stroke weight and settings so images would engrave rather than cut through) 
   
4. Changing stroke weights, fills, and power settings
   
5. Test on cardboard again
   
6. Laser cut on acrylic
