Project 01 – Box

Sardine Box





I created a box using a subtractive process and painted it to look like a sardine can. While this first project didn’t have to be related to my theme, I decided to paint it as a sardine can because they have been a staple in various cultures for centuries. It has a past relating to trade and preservation, which I associate with simpler ways of living.

Process: 

1. Cut wood to be smaller using the bandsaw & sketch rounded edges and where the screw would be placed
2. Rounded the edges using the disk sander
   
3. Used the drill to make a pilot hole
   
4. Cut the lid using the bandsaw
   
5. Use a drill press to make a cavity & sand the inner cavity 
   
6. Attach the screw using a screwdriver for more control 
   
7. Paint the box
